Show Your Unique Style with Maternity Clothes

Today it is more flattering to show off your belly, or baby bump, than to hide it away...

For the first couple of months, many pregnant women will be able to wear their existing wardrobe, with the only noticeable change in their bodies being slightly bigger breasts and a thicker waistline. However, when they finally out grow their regular clothes, sadly, many women prefer to wrap themselves in shapeless garments instead of fashionable styles.

When your mother and grandmother were expecting, the fashion trend was to hide their condition. It was even taboo to say the word "pregnant" on television. Things have changed. Today, it's more flattering to show off your belly, or baby bump, than to hide it away, with many of the more fashionable styles being sleek, showing off your new growing figure. Below are some other styles that you may like or dislike:

The Bohemian Look

Or as my mother puts it, the groovy look she wore. This style is comprised of free-flowing ethnic skirts, kaftans and yoke dresses, which are perfect for you're growing belly. The airy tunics and patterned blousons also look wonderful with oversize cardigans or capelet on chilly nights or mornings. This stylish trend also includes wide empire-waist and baby-doll dresses, which can be worn with maternity pants and jeans. In addition, there are the halter-type necklines, which are flattering to many women's bodies.

The Office Look

Many of today's maternity suits, can easily go from office apparel by day to eveningwear by night. These double duty suits can be dressed down with a t-shirt or dressed up with a silk blouse or tunic. Many of these maternity suits are made of wool blends, or cotton for easy care and cleaning. Remember you want your suit to look tailored made, not too big and defiantly not too small.

Go with Accessories

The secret with accessories when you're pregnant is to keep visual details to your top and not your bottom. Avoid big belts, shinny belts, and belts all together, instead, consider scarves, caplets, and bolero jackets, or anything, which will accentuate your shoulders and bust line. This is also a good time to increase your jewelry wardrobe.

Denim Jeans

Maternity jeans today are designed to provide the most comfort possible. Many famous designers have maternity versions in their most popular styles and in a variety of denim washes.

Undergarments

Before your pregnancy, you may have worn under wires. However, with your growing bust it is healthier for you to wear a thick shelf bra instead of an under wire. Sports bras are also great for this time, for they provide more room and support while you grow.

Don't Bare Too Much Skin
Today's fashion trend is to reveal your growing belly. However, many stars are revealing too much skin as well as their growing bellies. If you didn't have the flare to bare your belly before you got pregnant then you won't be able to pull it off now.
